Facilitator Certificate This programme provides a solid foundation of understanding in the process of grief, and how to help grieving people. It will be valuable to people working with those who have suffered a significant loss, including funeral service, nursing home staff, school personnel, human resources, hospice and grief support volunteers among many others. Course Description Dr. Bill Webster has developed a programme of grief support which has been highly acclaimed. This course shares his model, and provides all the tools you require to both organize and facilitate a community grief support programme. Those who successfully complete this course will not only have the credentials, but the experience required to effectively run a grief support programme in their community. We offer a rationale for support groups and why we believe it is both a more effective as well as efficient method of grief support. As you consider a local initiative, you will learn how to do a “needs assessment”, examine how to communicate with grieving people, understand grief group dynamics and develop basic counselling skills. You will learn such issues of practical application as Leadership, Time Frame for Group Meetings, Location of Group Meetings, Group Size, Publicity and other relevant considerations. As well, we will give some strategies for self care for those who work in the field of grief support. An outline of topics and agendas to accommodate an 8 week series of grief support meetings will be provided, and participants will prepare and present to their peers some aspect of a chosen topic to give them “hands on” experience. People who successfully complete both courses will have the knowledge and the practical application and experience they need to effectively facilitate community grief support programmes. |
